I am super in love with the Colorado Craft Company’s new release for Christmas. Yes, it has been out for a while. I have not had a chance to play with them till recently. I finished my Level II class assignments and am awaiting the final challenge. So with my time, I decided to try some of the techniques I learned in these classes to the test. Oh, and I want to mention that Colorado Craft Company has a sale today for Labor Day. Check my Sales/Affiliates page for information.
I came up with these adorable Christmas Cards. I am using the Christmas Hats, No Peeking, and the All is Bright stamp sets from Colorado Craft Company. I love these stamps. They do have dies for them. I fussy cut them out this time. I will use my Brother’s scan and cut to cut the next ones out when deciding which ones to use for my Christmas cards.
For my background, I did two ways: one with alcohol markers and Yupo paper and the other with water and watercolor paper.
For the Alcohol Marker cards, I took my color of choice and colored my Tim Holtz glass matt and spritz with 91% alcohol, then ran my non-porous paper across it. Then if the color was not what I wanted, I repeated the process till I got the color I wanted. I also spritzed my background, which gives it that fantastic bubbly look.
Here are my three cards with the Alcohol Marker background.
For my watercolor card, I took my ink, put it on my acrylic block, and spritzed it with water. I then took it and put it down on my watercolor paper. (it is dry) squishing it and moving it around the paper. I then lift and add another color if you so choose. If it is too dark, spritz the paper and blot it off with your napkin; doing this will soften the look and give you that soft watercolor look.
My critters and tree branches are colored with a combination of Colors from the Rock Garden and Cosmic Garden Alcohol Marker bundles. Ruby Red for the Hats and Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, and Evergreen for my trees. The Star is colored with Sand Dune and Rocky Shore. I am so in love with these markers. They are well worth the investment. The best part is they have refills. You can even purchase nibs for replacement.
