As most of you know that the new catalog went live last week. Our adventures in the Tiny house coincide with the catalog launch, unfortunately. So I thought I would take a moment to show you how the transition is going for my craft space in the Tiny house.
First I had to downsize A LOT! I am afraid that I may have to downsize more once we get our kitchen stuff in as well. I wanted to make sure I had all the items I wanted in the house for crafting before I even ventured into the kitchen items. I mean really who needs to cook? I can order out, right? Haha
I got rid of stamps and punches that had retired. I placed the ones I wanted to keep in boxes and put them in Evernote with which boxes they were in so that if I wanted them I could find them. I had planned on using the “basement” crawl space for my stamps but soon realized that it is not climate controlled as we thought. When Tiny was built they forgot to spray the bottom of the crawl space. So putting stamps in there would not be good for them. That is way too much money to lose those items. So we when we got the first load here and I was able to put things away I just about had a meltdown and thought that I would have to give up my crafting all together.
Tears were just about shed over the whole situation. My husband kept saying just use the under the couch storage if you need to. I was thinking well if I do that where the heck are we going to put our clothes till we are able to build a platform bed for storage? He insisted on this so the following pictures show you how I was able to keep all of my current stamps, inks, dies, punches, and embossing folders in the Tiny house.
This is where most of my supplies are that will be used most of the time. Under our counter, I have those wonderful Creative bags from ThirtyOne which have been discontinued. There are 3 bags under there. One has my Big Shot and all the plates and brushes that go to it. There is another with my tools example tape gun, adhesives, dimentionals scissors and other assorted stuff I like to use while crafting. The third bag which is the heaviest has all of my 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock. At some point, we will put a “drop leaf” counter that will cover this and will pop out to make a table/counter for me to use to craft. All of this atop a file cabinet purchased from Ikea.
A better look at my stash under the counter.
The Ikea cabinet has bunches of stuff in it.
The first drawer has most (not all) of my current punches. I also have some random things in herm such as masking paper and Bird Ballad Kit with Tin.
The second drawer holds all of my inks
I also stored some envelopes in here. I must say I will probably change all of my inks to the new style of inks so that they store a little better in this drawer. Some of them keep falling since they all do not have the feet like the new inks from Stampin’ Up! do.
The third drawer holds all of the DSP that I decided to keep. I also can store my catalogs and heat gun here as well. It is not ideal as I can not see what paper I have but that too may change at some point. I need to get in here full time before I figure that out.
What did I do with my Stamps you ask. That is where the meltdown came in. I was placing stuff in cabinets when I realized I had no room for them. I had all of my otther stuff such as embossing powder, ribbons, markers, and embellishments in clear containers up in the storage loft right in front so I could see what I wanted.
This did not solve my problem of where my stamps would be. For me, this is what inspires me to create. I need to be able to see the stamps. So the solution was what my hubby said for now.
This was a challenge because the drawer gets smaller in the back so to get everything in it took several times reorganizing it. I ended up with my extra adhesive, watercolor pencils, notepads, and gel pens. Now I just need to learn not to roll it over my toes. Yes, I have done this and my big toe is still black and blue at the moment.
The only thing I really need now is space to do some crafting. A table or counter in the near future is in order. we have the butcher block to match the counters so its just a matter of being here to make it happen.
I hope I have given you some ideas on how to be crafty with your storage in a tight situation. I can not wait to get crafty again!
Happy Craftin,
Amy
