I was inspired to do this Butterfly Gala Floating frame card because of a challenge I saw. I never got a chance to compete with this card as the challenge closed before it was complete. I saw Jennifer’s card and was inspired to use the Butterfly Gala bundle for the occasion. You can check out Jennifer’s blog here.
I did this one a couple of times. I had an impromptu demonstrator meeting with a few of the girls that are under me. We decided to try this one out. I hated my first go around. It seemed that the butterflies did not fill the space that they had and there was lots of empty space on the “frame”
Here is my original one.
I also decided to leave it with a very little color. The challenge was to be black and white with a pop of color. I added several colors but that is ok only one or two butterflies got colored. Hehe That is another reason it could not be entered into the challenge too many colors.
Here are the ones from my downline.
After seeing Kim’s first cards I found that the more you have on your cardstock the easier it was to handle and the prettier it was. You take a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of cardstock and cover it with punched or diecut images. Could be a flower or in my case butterflies. Then you use a piece of Press and Seal, yes the kind from the grocery in the saran wrap aisle, Pick these up after you have pressed then onto the press and seal. Then trim them to fit your 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 cardstock piece. Then carefully remove the cardstock piece from your press and seal. Run this through the die cut machine. You will end up with a negative piece which you will see in another picture. Put dimentionals or foam tape on the pieces of butterflies or whatever you decide to cut out. then you place it on your cardstock base.
I really liked the second card that I made from this technique using the negative from the frame. I still need a sentiment but I think I will wait for that till I know what I am going to use it for.
There were pretty interesting to do. I had no idea press and seal was all the rage for this kind of thing. It is the powerhouse to make these cards.
here is my final card
After I put the floating frame on a whisper white card base I am much happier with it. I don’t think it is a technique I will do often. I think unless you see how it is floating on the frame it looks like DSP that you colored and cut out the center.
