Free as a Bird had been calling my name since almost all the blogs that I follow had been posting about that particular set. I have been feeling a little blue with no crafting in my life recently. It’s not that I have been stopped from crafting it has just been hard to sit and craft when the only way to do it in the house is to completely demolish it and have stuff strung out all over the place. I am sure my husband feels pushed to the corner sometimes too when the need strikes.
One of my conundrums has been the bedroom and storage of some of my personal possessions. Some of these items do not do well in the humidity of the bathroom where I would normally store some of this. Well, here that is a problem since we only have 8 1/2 inches on both sides of the bed and 3 inches at the foot to walk around. So I was dying keeping all my stuff in a plastic tub under the bed. It drove me nuts. My lovely husband wanted to build a cabinet with an old window on the half wall with a pull-down table. This was a wonderful thought except it would affect the flow of air to the bedroom and the living area. Well, I don’t have to tell you that the whole country has had a heatwave. It has been 94-96 degrees Fahrenheit with a heat index over 100 degrees. That was not going to help so I went to searching Amazon and the web to see what I could find in small storage ideas.
The web is a wonderful tool for this kind of thing. I found exactly what I was looking for. I found these little wonderful pieces.
Four glorious drawers for whatever your needs are with a hard tabletop for my charger to sit on.
mDesign Narrow Vertical Dresser Storage Tower – Sturdy Frame, Wood Top, Easy Pull Fabric Bins – Organizer Unit for Bedroom, Hallway, Entryway, Closets – Textured Print, 4 Drawers – Light Tan/White is the perfect fit. I love this storage chest. It holds all my stuff and then some. I am even able to use it as a dresser. I purchased two of them. Now if I could only find a place to store my current travel craft bag that would make like so much easier.
Free as a Bird cards
I was feeling pretty low and hubby was out for the day. I don’t even remember where he went that day but I had the house to myself so I did what I do best and crafted. I got two cards out and I thought they came out perfectly.
Can you tell that my trimmer needs a new blade? I tore at the top when I tried to trim it again. That will be something I will have to do. There are still no blades available yet for the trimmers and there is still not a new trimmer finalized yet with Stampn’ Up! I used the delicate lace dies on this one and just love the lacy delicate feeling they give your card. Topping it off with the Lace 3-D embossing folder with a mix of Crushed Curry and Daffodil Delight inks sponged on top. I thought using just a solid color of yellow would take away from the lacy feeling that I wanted.
For the second card I did I used the bundle and added 3-D embossing folders to the card.
I did the Tin Tile 3-D embossing folder a little off and this was a total accident. I did sort of like it that way though. I can see the use of doing it this way on other cards. I know you can barely tell that I embossed the Soft Suede in the 3-D Pinewood Planks which is in the catalog but not showing up in Stampin’ Up!’s website. I have an email into demo support to find out why.
I used the watercolored pencils to color both sets of birds on the cards but you could easily use the blends if you prefer the smoother look of the alcohol markers. I love them both.
I hope you enjoyed today’s post.
I will be working on a Christmas card for you next from the current annual catalog. I found a few cards that were stunning and decided to combine a few techniques together. I am going to get seriously INKY on this one. WhooHoo I can’t wait.
Below is a supply list of what I used for these cards it does not include the Pinewood Plank 3-D embossing folder since it is missing in action.
Don’t forget this week is the last week to get that bonus for August coupons. Hostess Number is 3T3XXKME.
Happy Craftin’
