I wanted to do a special card for my Mom’s birthday. The Layered Cube card was just the ticket. Thanks to Lavonne on one of the groups that I follow. She did one that I thought was absolutely STUNNING. So I created one for my mom, a bit similar, but I used birds and my retired Designer Series Paper that had PINK in it. Mom asked for PINK this year. Apparently, that is her favorite color. Who knew? She does not usually wear pink or buy pink stuff, so I just would have never thought of that.
Anyway, I was to visit my mom for her birthday, an 8-hour drive to see her. She kept telling me the COVID cases are up. Are you sure? I was like ya, and I am still coming; she kept giving me this outrageous number of over 5 thousand people per day. I did not really believe her, of course. I thought she was giving me her state total numbers daily. My husband looked it up, and sure enough, they were adding over 5500 cases per day to their totals. I was devastated. I had just missed my best friend’s wedding and now to not see my mom, who has been sick as well. Let’s say I am not a happy camper right now. This is getting entirely too stressful for me. I have minimal outlets for stress these days, and I am just starting to feel closed in. I’m not too fond of it.
THE CARD
Now that you know why I wanted such a special card, let’s get back to it. It is defiantly a labor of love and time-consuming, but the results are simply stunning.
Here are some other views of this beautiful card. There are so many things to see; it is simply too much to get into one picture.
Now there is one thing I want to mention to you that I did not put in the video. Make a simple 1 x 6 strip of cardstock, score it from each side at 1 and 2 inches, then fold into an M shape. Fold it flat, put glue on the back of the strips, line the scoreline up with the center of the strip, and glue down to give your sentiment the pop that I have here. You do not have to do this. You can use dimentionals as well.
Dimensions
Base
7 x 7 1/2 inch
Two 5 1/4 x 7 1/2
Two 3 1/2 x 7 1/2
Two 1 3/4 x 7 1/2
Score all of these on the landscape side at
1 3/4, 3 1/2, 5 1/4, and 7 inches
1×6 scored at 1/2, 1, 2 1/2, and, 3 inches from both sides for center sentiment to make it pop.
Matts
Two 1 1/2 x 6 3/4
Four 1 1/2 x 5
Two 1 1/2 x 3 1/4
Eight 1 1/2 x 1 1/2
Designer Series Paper
Two 1 1/4 x 6 1/2
Four 1 1/4 x 4 3/4
Two 1 1/4 x 3
Eight 1 1/4 x 1 1/4

I really have to make one off these. It is stunning. I’m sure your mom will treasure it. We are all feeling very much as you are, but we will get through it! 😊
You mentioned Lavonne in your post. I have looked at so many of her cards and would really like to know what group she is on. Are you free to share that information?
Amy Austin-Kinler says
Lavone is on a FB group that I follow called Stampin’ Up Only I believe. She does some lovely cards. As for my mother, she loves it!! It sets front and center on her table. The hardest part of this card is trying to decide on the designer series paper you are gonna use.

Your work has inspires me! I have started your card and notice your base is missing one more 3 1/2 x 7 and so the Matt and designer paper are all off as well I just want to point that out.
As I was following your video I realized they were missing. Thank you so much and keep the tutorials coming. You make it easy for us beginners

Thank you for letting me know. I will check into this. I have double-checked the description in the Youtube video, so they are all there. I am not sure if I mention it in the video. I would love to see a picture of what you came up with.

I wish you would show in your YouTube the banner that has the sentiment. I measured the 1×6 but I couldn’t understand how it is put into the card….and then I notice there’s one on top where the birds are??
Kelly says
How do you make an envelop to fit the card?
Amy Austin-Kinler says
If you have an envelope punch board just measure your card dimentions and follow the instructions on you punch board.

Ugh! you are missing a piece on your description here. I was so excited when I finished cutting everything and then realized from video that another 5 1/4X 7 1/2 is missing. Now I have to go cut everything for that one.

I am sorry. We all make mistakes sometimes. Glad you caught it. Happy Crafting.
