Taking the Altenew class called Masking Unleashed was certainly a challenge for me. Masking is NOT my favorite thing to do. My mind did not take well to actually do some of this. I did learn a lot but I am sure it will not be something I do much with. I have always understood the basics of Masking and I have used it in my cards in the past. This class brings it to a whole other level of masking.
I tried and tried to come up with something that was similar to the cards that she created. I, unfortunately, had to work with what I had. One of her cards in the class was a wreath die cut from masking tape and color blended over it lightly, she then masked another section of the wreath. Then continued to color. This was beautiful. I really wanted to create something like this but I did not have anything small enough that I could get the effect on a card.
I decided to do two different cards for you. One sort of simple but mashing up both the stamped images and then the background as well. Check them out.
Card One
This one is simple where I was just masking my flowers stamping a background of woodgrain in the back in gray granite. Then covering the background and coloring each stamped image. I did add a bit of wink of Stella to the flowers on this card for a bit of shimmer.
Card Two
For this one, I arranged my stamped images so that they overlapped a bit while stamping them. After they were all stamped I stamped the background with a second-generation smoky slate ink color. Then I took and masked each image as I colored the images by blending Fossilized Amber and Picked raspberry inks for the flowers and Rustic Wilderness and Shabby Shutters for the leaves.
Sentiments for both cards were cut three times once with black cardstock and twice with thick white cardstock. I layered them up and covered them with versamark and clear embossing powder. My smaller sentiments were stamped with versamark and embossed with white embossing powder on the black cardstock.
I am not sure I will be doing much more of this kind of card, I did like doing the first one it was much easier. It is nice to know that I can do more detailed kind if I need to. Thanks, Altenew for bringing me out of my comfort zone.
