I know most of my readers have been wondering how I did those Stained Glass Butterflies a few post back. Today is the day you have been waiting on. I am going to tell you how I did it. This technique was such a big hit with a few of my crafty friends at church “Our Creative Team” decided to use it as wings on our hearts that we are creating for our church. I will post a copy of those when they are complete as we are working on some of those this coming Friday.
For these fantastic butterflies I cut out my Butterfly with the framelit then took the acetate and trimmed a bigger butterfly with that as my guide. I then took the Crystal Effects and filled the butterfly with it leaving a rim so that I could pick it up. Once I had a decent coat of the Crystal Effects I then took re inkers to add my color to the Crystal Effects by using my scoring tool. You do not want to fill it with so much ink that it becomes really dark. You also do not want to work each color so much that they mix and turn brown. Once you have the colors where you want them pick up at the edges and let the crystal effects run. This makes it look almost like depression glass. Once you have done that and have it the way you want it let it dry for 24 hours. Then you can attach the framelit on top of it. If you plan on attaching this to a card use the crystal effects again to attach to your cardstock this will keep it clear so you can still see through it. Check out the website I found with a video on Quartz Technique video by Butternut squash.
